About Robert Lee

I am a resident of Sussex County and the Seaford School District. I am married to Lori, (former Locke), who was born and raised in Sussex county. She is currently the Assist VP of Nursing at Nanticoke Memorial Hospital. We have been married since May of 2008 and between us have six adult children ages 22-36 that live in various states on the eastern seaboard. I served the City of Seaford for twenty five years in the Police Department. After retiring from the Attorney General’s office in Jan. 2013, I have been your Sussex County Sheriff since January 2015. During my tenure, I have recieved the certification for the role of State Constantable. I raise Bob White Quail for area sportsmen, and plant approximately 10 acres of specialty corn for deer hunters.

Work History  I started my Public Service career with the Metro Transit Police after graduation from American University in Washington DC. 1975-1977 I then joined the Seaford Police Department in October 1977. During my 25 years tenure I was in various duty assignments consisting of Patrol, Criminal Investigation, Special Operations Team, various task forces, and the creation of the first Motorcycle Unit. I retired as a Detective/Sergeant, head of the Criminal Investigation Unit in Sept 2002. In Sept. 2002, I was hired as the Sussex County State Detective for the Attorney General’s Office/Department of Justice. My duties consisted of extraditing fugitives from other states back to Delaware. In a partnership with the Attorney General’s office and the DE State Police, I was also assigned to a special task force targeting sex offenders failing to register. After ten years of service with the Attorney General’s office, I retired in January of 2013.

Education I was raised on a family dairy farm in Cadis Pa. and graduated from Northeast Bradford High School. I received an Associate’s degree from Lehigh Co. Community College in Criminal Justice and then completed my Bachelor’s from American University in Washington DC. I attended the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center in Washington, DC for my police academy training with the Transit Police. Once I moved to DE, I then attended the Delaware State Police Academy for Seaford Police Department. Through training requirements, I have attended numerous Law Enforcement training classes and seminars. I also successfully attended the Maryland State Police Motorcycle School and later became an instructor for their training sessions..

Community I sit on the Board for the Criminal Justice Program at Sussex Tech High School . I am a member of the Delaware Farm Bureau . I enjoy restoring John Deere equipment, and currently use several antique tractors in my farm operation. I have displayed several of these tractors in the Thresherman’s Farm Festival over the past few years.
